The Amadeus Chamber Orchestra has been short-listed for its album of music by the Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz, entitled Music for Chamber Orchestra vol. III, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Bacewicz’s string works are performed under renowned conductor Agnieszka Duczmal, who is also the founder and artistic director of the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, officials said.
Duczmal told Polish Radio: “The fact that the BBC nominated our recordings, the music that we recorded here for Polish Radio, that was released by a Polish record label, DUX, and performed by a Polish orchestra, is amazing. And it’s all down to one marvellous composer, Grażyna Bacewicz, her character and genius.”
Meanwhile, the BBC Music Magazine wrote: “In a set of recordings spanning a number of years, conductor Agnieszka Duczmal and the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra revived a series of string works by one of Poland’s greatest, and often unsung, musical voices.”
The BBC described the performances as “gutsy,” as well as “dynamic and full of life.”
