The work will be performed by the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, conducted by Poland’s Marzena Diakun, the ensemble’s artistic director.

The concert will also feature the Polish Radio Choir from Kraków, southern Poland, the Jóvenes Cantoras de la Jorcam choir, and three Polish soloists: soprano Olga Pasiecznik, baritone Mariusz Godlewski, and bass Lukas Jakobski.

On Tuesday, the work was performed in Madrid.

Penderecki wrote St. Luke Passion in 1966, in the early stage of his career, to commemorate the millennium of Polish Christianity.

Marcin Zarzecki, head of the Polish National Foundation, which is among the sponsors of the concerts, told Poland's PAP news agency that Penderecki’s music ”constitutes an outstanding example of Polish musical heritage which is highly acclaimed abroad.”

He said that the performances of St. Luke Passion in Spain were part of efforts to promote Poland through "cultural diplomacy.”

Penderecki died in 2020 at the age of 86.
