He was a professor at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and a lecturer at the Foreign Languages Department of the city’s University of Technology.
His translations of Polish literature included works by Nobel Prize winners Wisława Szymborska and Olga Tokarczuk.
Dmytruk translated a selection of poetry by Szymborska and the novels House of Day, House of Night and Primeval and Other Times, as well as three collections of short stories, by Tokarczuk.
He also translated verse by outstanding Polish poets Zbigniew Herbert, Adam Zagajewski and Tadeusz Różewicz.
Translator and poet Ostap Slyvynsky has described Dmytruk on Facebook as "a demon for work," citing his translation of the extremely difficult, linguistically challenging 1805 frame novel by Jan Potocki The Manuscript Found in Saragossa.
