The two will perform together in Kalisz, western Poland, on March 3, and in the southern city of Kraków on March 8.
In Kalisz, they will perform with the Włodek Pawlik Trio and the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra under Aleksander Humala, while in Kraków they will be accompanied by the city’s Philharmonic under Humala.
The concerts come a decade after Pawlik and Brecker won a Grammy award in the Best Jazz Large Ensemble category for their album Night in Calisia, a six-part suite celebrating the 1,850th anniversary of the town of Kalisz.
Brecker, 78, is a seven-time Grammy winner.
In an interview with public broadcaster Polish Radio setting the scene for the concerts, Pawlik said that the Grammy was the most important award in his career to date, one that opened up new opportunities for him.
Recalling the beginnings of his collaboration with Brecker, Pawlik said that it all started in 1994, during his studies in Hamburg, Germany, when Randy played with his brother Michael in a duo.
In the late 1990s, Pawlik and Brecker produced two albums, Turtles and Jazz Suite Tykocin.
The latter came in the wake of Brecker’s emotional journey to Tykocin, north-eastern Poland, where his grandfather lived before emigrating to the United States.
The Brecker family was looking for Eastern European bone marrow donors who might be a match for Michael, two years before the saxophonist lost his battle with a rare form of leukemia.
On February 28, Brecker joined Polish musicians Piotr Lemańczyk (bass, bass guitar), Rafał Sarnecki (guitar) and Adam Golicki (drums) in a concert in Świdnica, southwestern Poland.
