Zgorzelski, who is a senior parliamentarian with the opposition Polish People's Party (PSL), said in a social media post on Monday morning that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

“My coronavirus test came back positive,” he said on Twitter.

He added that he was “feeling good” and staying quarantined.

He also thanked the country’s health professionals for their hard work, "often on the verge of human endurance."

Zgorzelski appealed to the public not to play down COVID-19 risks.

"Take care of yourselves and do not underestimate the threat," he tweeted.

A total of 100,074 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland since the start of the pandemic, and 2,630 have died from the COVID-19 respiratory disease so far, public health officials said on Sunday.
