The 20-year-old Pole overpowered the 30-year-old Romanian 6-1, 6-0 in their third-round women's singles match at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital.

Świątek, who is ranked world No. 9 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), will next face the winner of a match between Spain's Garbine Muguruza and Tunisia's Ons Jabeur.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 44 Magda Linette has booked a spot in the third round of the Wimbledon women's singles with a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 win on Thursday over Ukraine's Elina Svitolina.

She next takes on Spain's world No. 33 Paula Bados for a place in the fourth round.

Poland's Świątek in 2018 won the Girls' Singles title at Wimbledon.
