"Bortniczuk is set to take over as sports minister," Poland's conservative leader, Jarosław Kaczyński, revealed on Wednesday, as quoted by state news agency PAP.
Kaczyński, a deputy prime minister, said the official "appointment will be made as soon as possible," probably next week, the news agency reported.
He also announced that the sports ministry would be "separated" from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
"I believe the matter will be closed next week," Kaczyński was quoted as saying.
Culture Minister Piotr Gliński has been doubling as sports minister since October last year.
Bortniczuk is a lawmaker with the Republican Party, led by conservative Eurodeputy Adam Bielan. He was formerly a member of Jarosław Gowin’s Agreement party, which left the government in the summer.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet next week.
