Wallace made the announcement as he was visiting Warsaw for talks with Poland’s Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak to discuss Russia's war against Ukraine and the security of the eastern flank of the NATO alliance, officials told reporters.
"We are going to deploy the Sky Sabre medium-range, anti-air missile system to Poland with about 100 personnel to make sure that we stand alongside Poland, protecting her airspace from any further aggression by Russia," Wallace told a news conference in the Polish capital.
Poland's Błaszczak said: "We can always count on the United Kingdom. British soldiers serve on the Polish-Belarusian border and support the Polish armed forces."
The meeting between Wallace and Błaszczak came a day after NATO defence ministers gathered in Brussels to discuss security in Eastern Europe and the Western military alliance's response to the war in Ukraine.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg was quoted as saying this week that the alliance needed to reset its military posture "for this new reality" and "start an important discussion on concrete measures to reinforce our security for the longer term, in all domains."
According to the Reuters news agency, NATO has begun drawing up plans for new ways to deter Russia following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, including more troops and missile defences in eastern Europe.
Earlier this month, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Warsaw for talks with his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki about Russia's war on Ukraine.
The two prime ministers at the time discussed ways of strengthening the eastern flank of NATO amid Russia's invasion of Poland's eastern neighbour, reporters were told.
