This time the charity drive, which is now in its 31st year, will be raising money to help buy equipment for early diagnosis of the bacterial infection that causes sepsis.
Since the effort was launched in 1992, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity has collected over PLN 1.75 billion (EUR 370 million) in aid of Polish medicine and bought nearly 70,000 medical devices, with the money going to support children's and geriatric hospitals.
This year, for the first time in the fundraiser's history, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity foundation aims to purchase medical equipment for all patients in need, regardless of age.
The traditional collection will be held on January 29, with volunteers equipped with the charity's signature boxes and heart-shaped stickers taking to the streets of towns and cities across Poland and beyond.
Meanwhile, online fundraisers and auctions were launched as part of the campaign in December.
Celebrities, sports stars and institutions are pitching in by donating items to be auctioned off.
Among those contributing is the Silesian Planetarium in Katowice, southern Poland.
Radio Poland's Agnieszka Bielawska caught up with Jarosław Juszkiewicz, spokesman for the Silesian Planetarium, to ask him about the auction and other activities.
