Various celebrities, including football star Robert Lewandowski and tennis players Iga Świątek and Hubert Hurkacz, have pitched in by putting up personal items for a charity auction.
Many others across the country have supported the effort.
One of them is Karol Maciejczyk, a businessman from Oleśnica, in southwestern Poland, who has joined the charity auction for the second year in a row.
"We offer the first strawberries of the season at the highest possible price," said Maciejczyk, who owns a strawberry plantation called Truskawki od Karola (Karol's Strawberries).

He told Radio Poland's Danuta Isler: "Last year the winning bid was 521 PLN per kilogram of such strawberries. This year, since we posted the bid this week the price has already reached 120 PLN per kilo. We hope it will be even more than last year."
