The official made the statement on Thursday night, the public broadcaster’s IAR news agency reported.
Earlier, Polish Radio’s US correspondent Marek Wałkuski asked the administration in Washington if there was a possibility that Poland could join NATO’s nuclear weapons sharing programme.
The question came after Polish President Andrzej Duda told the Gazeta Polska newspaper earlier this week that Poland had asked to have US nuclear weapons based on its territory.
Poland’s request was fueled by concerns that Vladimir Putin could use nuclear arms in Ukraine to avoid a defeat of his invasion, according to news outlets.
“The problem, above all, is that we don’t have nuclear weapons,” the Polish president said in an interview with Gazeta Polska on Wednesday.
“We have spoken with American leaders about whether the United States is considering such a possibility. The issue is open,” he added.
No US plan to deploy nuclear weapons to post-1997 NATO members: White House
The White House told Polish Radio on Thursday that "the US and its NATO allies are continuously evaluating the evolving security environment."
It added: "At this time, the US has no plan to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of NATO members who have joined the alliance since 1997."
The White House referred Polish Radio to the office of President Duda for more information on the issue, the IAR news agency reported.
In an earlier statement, the White House said it had not received a request from Warsaw to have US nuclear arms based on Polish soil, according to theguardian.co.uk website.
“We’re not aware of this issue being raised and would refer you to the government of Poland,” a US official said on Wednesday, according to theguardian.co.uk.
