Russian military death toll in Ukraine rises to 240,690: report

Around 240,690 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Vladimir Putin invaded the country in February last year, according to Ukrainian military authorities.

The Russians have also lost 4,133 tanks, 8,080 armored combat vehicles and 4,610 artillery systems during their military campaign in Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Friday, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

On Thursday alone, Ukrainian forces killed 680 Russian soldiers, according to the ukrinform.net website.

Other Russian losses in Ukraine include 692 multiple launch rocket systems, 440 anti-aircraft warfare systems, 315 warplanes, 310 helicopters, 18 warships, and 3,933 unmanned aerial vehicles, ukrinform.net reported.

A top British military official said this month that "Russia has lost nearly half the combat effectiveness of its army" since invading Ukraine in February last year.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 513 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
