The US Air Force said that a select group of Ukrainian pilots are set to be trained for several months in a specialized Arizona unit. In addition to pilots, around 200 personnel will be trained for ground handling of these fighter jets in the United States.
Ukrainian F-16 pilots are also being trained in Denmark, while Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway have committed to supplying Ukraine with modern fighter jets after the training.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed his country’s intent to greenlight the jet transfers upon the conclusion of training, as any transfer of US-made F-16s requires the authorization of the United States.
Kyiv anticipates the delivery of the F-16s in the coming year, although the actual date is contingent on the training progress of Ukrainian pilots.
