NATO chief calls on allies to sustain support for Ukraine

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has urged allies to sustain their support for Ukraine in its war against Russia's invasion, according to reports.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Stoltenberg said this week that the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and Russia's recent battlefield gains should prompt NATO allies to focus on the urgent need to support Ukraine.

The NATO chief said the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the city of Avdiivka after months of intense fighting demonstrates the need for more military aid “to ensure that Russia doesn’t make further gains," according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

"I strongly believe that the best way to honor the memory of Alexei Navalny is to ensure that President Putin doesn't win on the battlefield, but that Ukraine prevails,” Stoltenberg said in the interview, as quoted on the rferl.org website.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

Thursday is day 729 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
