The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said in a statement that "all necessary procedures have been initiated" to ensure the safety of Polish airspace.
It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."
The statement also said that Polish and allied aircraft were activated early on Thursday, with the Operational Command "taking steps to ensure safety" in areas near the Ukrainian border.
The alert was in effect until around 10 a.m., when the Operational Command noted a decreased threat of missile strikes by Russian aircraft on Ukrainian regions bordering Poland.
The Operational Command reported no violations of Polish airspace during the Russian air strikes on western Ukraine.
Russia launched a fresh wave of missile strikes on Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday, targeting various regions across the country, including areas near the Polish border, according to officials.
The Ukrainian air force said that Russian forces launched missiles from Tu-95 strategic bombers, with missile trajectories shifting directions.
It added that Russia also fired cruise missiles at targets in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Chernihiv, Kyiv and Poltava regions, according to Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.
Additionally, Moscow launched a powerful intercontinental ballistic missile during its attack on Ukraine on Thursday, according to Kyiv's air force.
Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.
Thursday is day 1,002 of Russia's war on Ukraine.
