Trump suggests Middle East for possible meeting with Putin

The U.S. president indicated that a potential meeting with Vladimir Putin could take place in Saudi Arabia, following his phone talks with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.

Although Donald Trump suggested that Saudi Arabia is the likely location for his talks with the Russian president, Russian sources have pointed to the United Arab Emirates as another possible venue.

After speaking with Vladimir Putin, the U.S. president emphasized the need to stop the loss of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers' lives in the war in Ukraine. The two leaders reportedly agreed to immediately begin peace negotiations, which will be handled by designated teams.

Pres. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday that he and Russian Pres. Putin will "probably" meet in Saudi Arabia in the "not too distant future." Trump also spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky, calling their phone conversation the first major step toward ending the conflict. He stressed the need to prevent further casualties.

Zelensky open to peace talks, Trump skeptical of NATO bid

President Trump stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is “unrealistic” and that Kyiv reclaiming all of its territories occupied by Russia is “highly unlikely.”

According to the U.S. president, a ceasefire in Ukraine could happen “in the near future,” and at some point, “elections will have to take place” in the country.

Following his conversation with Zelensky, Trump said the Ukrainian president “wants to make peace,” a sentiment Zelensky himself confirmed, expressing his readiness to cooperate at the negotiation team level.

The head of the Polish government also weighed in on the matter.

PM Tusk calls for "just peace" through unity

"All we need is peace. A JUST PEACE. Ukraine, Europe, and the United States should work on this together. TOGETHER," Donald Tusk said via social media.

Also Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha responded to the new U.S. administration’s initiatives on ending the conflict with Russia in a comment to the French newspaper Le Monde.
