"Monday, February 24, marks the third anniversary of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine," Costa wrote on X.

He added that he would visit the Ukrainian capital alongside von der Leyen to reaffirm "support for the heroic Ukrainian people" and their "democratically elected" President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Additionally, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said that a delegation of European commissioners would also arrive in Kyiv on the anniversary, the newsukraine.rbc.ua website reported on Thursday.

"The government, together with colleagues from the European Commission, will hold joint consultations," Shmyhal said, as cited by the Ukrainian news website.

He added: "A series of bilateral meetings is planned. We will discuss cooperation in security and defense, strengthening sanctions against the aggressor, economic ties between Ukraine and the EU, and European integration."

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday denounced Ukraine's Zelensky as "a dictator without elections" and warned that he must "move fast" to secure peace with Russia or risk losing his country.

He also mocked Zelensky as "a modestly successful comedian" and accused him of talking the United States into spending USD 350 billion "to go into a war that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a war that he, without the U.S. and Trump, will never be able to settle."

Speaking to reporters in Florida on Tuesday, Trump blamed Ukraine's authorities for the war and suggested they "could have made a deal" with Russia earlier.

Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Monday will mark three years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
