“During the war in Ukraine, elderly people who cannot travel to safe regions are forced to live in the occupation or in the besieged cities, where they are tortured and killed by the Russian occupiers," Ukraine's human rights ombudswoman, Lyudmila Denisova, said, as quoted in English by the ukrinform.net website.
Denisova on Monday took part in a session of the United Nations' Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing in New York, the Ukrainian website reported.
She told the panel that "the Russian invaders were forcing children in the temporarily occupied territories to go to schools in areas adjacent to places of hostilities," according to ukrinform.net.
A day earlier, Denisova unveiled new evidence of torture, rape and killings committed by invading Russian forces in Ukraine, news outlets reported.
