Lithuania to buy 37 Polish drones for Ukrainian army

Lithuania's defence minister has said his country will use EUR 1 million in funds raised in a crowdfunding campaign to buy 37 Polish drones for the Ukrainian army.

Arvydas Anušauskas announced in a tweet on Saturday that part of the funds collected by the Legion of Boom fundraiser will be transferred to the Lithuanian defence ministry "and will be used for the purchase of 37 kamikaze drones from Poland and then sent to Ukraine."

Lithuanians donated nearly EUR 1.55 million in the Legion of Boom fundraising campaign for weapons for Ukraine, according to journalist Andrius Tapinas, who initiated the effort to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day, the euromaidanpress.com website reported.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said last month that Polish-made drones were "powerful support" for troops defending his country against Russian attacks on the front lines.

Top Ukrainian top officials have repeatedly praised the performance of Polish unmanned aerial vehicles in the war against Russia, according to Polish news outlets.

Saturday is day 185 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
