UPDATE: Russian missiles hit Ukrainian cities

A new barrage of Russian missiles struck Ukraine's capital Kyiv and other major cities, including Kharkiv in the east and Lviv in the west, on Thursday, causing a series of explosions, news agencies reported.

The Kyiv city military administration was quoted as saying that "two private houses in Darnytskyi district were damaged by fragments of downed missiles."

Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned of possible power cuts, the Reuters news agency reported.

Three people, including a 14-year-old girl, were reported injured in the Ukrainian capital.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said officials were clarifying what had been hit and whether there were any casualties, according to Reuters.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said on the Telegram messaging service that 90 percent of the city was without electricity. He warned of possible "interruptions in water supply," Reuters reported.

Power cuts were also announced in the Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions in the south.

Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said that Russia had fired more than 120 missiles at Ukraine on Thursday morning, Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform reported.

Ukraine's defence ministry said its forces had shot down 54 of 69 missiles launched by Russia.

"This morning, the aggressor launched air and sea-based cruise missiles, anti-aircraft guided missiles to the S-300 ADMS at energy infrastructure facilities of our country," Ukraine's top general, Valery Zaluzhny, wrote on Telegram, as quoted by Reuters.
