Reports have been coming in that Ukraine has blown up a bridge near the eastern city of Bakhmut which has been under intense fire from Russia.
In January, the Head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said Bakhmut was a strategic target for Russia. Euroaktiv quoted him as saying:
“The cherry on the cake is the system of Soledar and Bakhmut mines, which is actually a network of underground cities. It not only (has the ability to hold) a big group of people at a depth of 80-100 metres, but tanks and infantry fighting vehicles can also move about.”
The Guardian suggested today that the destruction of the bridge may be a sign Ukraine is preparing to surrender the area. This potentially troubling news for Ukraine comes on the day General Mark Milley said that Russia has already lost "strategically, militarily and tactically".
