The Washington-based think tank stated that “Ukrainian forces made visually verified advances in western Donetsk Oblast [in eastern Ukraine] and western Zaporizhia Oblast [in southeastern Ukraine], which Russian sources confirmed but sought to downplay.”

According to Kyiv’s officials, “Ukrainian forces are conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut area,” in the Donetsk region, while “Russian sources reported continued Ukrainian ground attacks on Bakhmut’s northern and southern flanks,” the US experts noted.

The ISW stated: “Geolocated footage and Russian sources indicated that Ukrainian forces liberated multiple settlements during continued ground attacks south, southwest, and southeast of Velyka Novosilka in western Donetsk Oblast.”

Russian shelling kills four people in south and east Ukraine: reports

In the past 24 hours, Russia has shelled Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region and the southern Kherson province, as well as Donetsk region in the east and Zaporizhzhia province in the south-east, Ukraine’s state broadcaster Suspilne reported on Monday morning.

In the Kharkiv region, a man was wounded in Shevchenkove, another man was injured in  Vilkhuvatka, while one two-storey building was destroyed and another was damaged in Khorosheve, according to officials.

In the Kherson region, three people were killed and 12 wounded as a result of Russian shelling, Suspilne reported.

Meanwhile, one person died and two were injured in the Donetsk province, and another person was wounded in the Zaporizhzhia region, officials said.

Following the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in the Kherson region, the average level of flooding in the province was 3.29 metres on Monday morning, according to Suspilne.

Since Sunday night, the water has receded by 64 centimetres and the Kakhovka reservoir has already lost more than 72 percent of its water, Suspilne also reported, as quoted by Britain’s The Guardian newspaper.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Monday is day 474 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
