The latest update was provided by the General Staff’s spokesman Andriy Kovaliov, the state Ukrinform news agency reported on Wednesday.
Kovaliov said in a media interview: "Ukrainian soldiers continue to conduct an offensive operation in Bakhmut, Melitopol, and Berdiansk directions, gain a foothold on the reached frontiers, and fire artillery on the identified enemy targets.“
He added that the Ukrainian army had had success in the area of Staromayorske, Donetsk region, and gained a foothold on the achieved borders, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops also continue going on the offensive north and south of the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, the General Staff spokesman said.
At the same time, Russian forces made unsuccessful attempts to restore their lost positions northeast of Robotyne, in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, according to Kovaliov.
He added that Ukraine’s defense forces continued to hold back the advance of Russian troops in Kupyansk and Lyman directions.
Heavy fighting continued in these areas, with 26 combat engagements taking place over the past day, the General Staff spokesman said.
Overall, in the past 24 hours, “Ukrainian missile and artillery units have struck one Russian personnel, ammunition and military equipment cluster, seven artillery systems in firing position, two electronic warfare systems, and two surface-to-air missile systems,” Ukraine’s military command said on Wednesday morning, as quoted by Ukrinform.
Russia shells Ukraine’s Kharkiv, Donetsk, Kherson regions, killing at least four: officials
Russian forces on Tuesday kept up attacks on several regions of Ukraine, including Kharkiv in the northeast, Kherson in the south and Donetsk in the east, killing at least four civilians, according to officials.
In the Donetsk region, Russian shelling killed two civilians in the towns of Kostiantynivka and Avdiivka, and two more people were injured, according to Pavlo Kyrylenko, who heads the province’s military administration.
In the Kherson region, Russian forces launched 55 attacks, including rocket strikes, tank fire and drone strikes, killing two people and wounding three more, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.
In the Kharkiv province, Russian troops opened fire on six districts, including on the city of Kupyansk, where two detached houses were struck with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), the state Ukrinform agency reported.
In addition, a drone attack on the town of Pervomaiskyi hit a warehouse facility and caused a fire to break out, but there were no casualties, according to regional officials.
Russia also launched 79 strikes on 22 settlements in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia province in the course of Tuesday, Ukrinform reported.
Meanwhile, 10 communities in the northeastern Sumy region also came under Russian fire throughout the day, The Kyiv Independent website reported.
