Russia hits Ukraine’s Kharkiv with missiles: officials

Russia launched a missile strike on Ukraine’s northeastern city of Kharkiv overnight on Monday, injuring one person, according to officials.

The attack was carried out using S-300 surface-to-air missiles around midnight, Ukraine’s state Ukrinform news agency reported.

The missiles struck a warehouse in Kharkiv’s Novobavarskyi district, starting a fire and injuring one man, according to officials. 

Another missile hit a private farm in the village of Velykyi Burluk in the Kharkiv region; no one was injured, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Russia attacks Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kherson regions

Russia also attacked the Nikopol district in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region during the night, shelling the town of Nikopol and the Marhanets community, according to Ukrinform.

There were no casualties, said Serhiy Lysak, who heads the military administration of the Dnipropetrovsk region. 

Russian strikes killed one person and injured seven in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, Ukrinform reported, citing regional officials. 

Meanwhile, Russian attacks injured five people in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region over the past day, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.

Russia struck the province 68 times during this period with mortars, artillery, Grad multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS), tanks and UAVs, launching a total of 358 projectiles, according to officials.  

Five people were injured in the attacks, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson region’s military administration, Ukrainska Pravda reported.

Russia also shelled Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region 32 times over the past 24 hours, using mortars, self-propelled guns and artillery, among other weapons, according to officials. 

One person was injured and damage was caused in 169 recorded explosions, they said.

In all, Russia launched four missile strikes, 42 airstrikes, and 76 MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated settlements over the last day, Ukraine’s General Staff said on Monday. 

As a result of these attacks, civilians were killed and injured, and residential buildings were destroyed, the General Staff added.

Ukraine continues counteroffensive in three directions

Meanwhile, the defense forces of Ukraine continued to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, and gain a foothold on the achieved boundaries, military officials in Kyiv said.

Ukrainian troops are gradually advancing in these sectors, as well as achieving small successes on the southern flank of Ukraine’s Russian-held eastern city of Bakhmut, the Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank, reported on Sunday night, citing Ukrainian military sources.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces hit an enemy anti-aircraft missile system, eight artillery systems on firing positions, two electronic warfare stations, and two personnel clusters, Ukrinform reported, citing Ukraine’s military command.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s aviation forces launched seven strikes on Russian personnel concentration areas, and Ukrainian troops also destroyed four of Russia’s Iranian-made Shahed-136 combat drones, and four reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles, Ukrinform reported.

In addition, Ukraine’s missile and artillery units hit a Russian anti-aircraft missile system, eight artillery systems on firing positions, two electronic-warfare stations and two personnel clusters, Ukraine’s General Staff said. 

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Monday is day 523 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
