The Ukrainian air force said Russian forces also used a "Kh-31P guided missile" to attack Ukraine's southeastern Odesa region, state news agency Ukrinform reported.
"On the night of October 23, 2024 ... the enemy attacked Ukraine with 81 Shahed-type attack UAVs and unidentified drones from the directions of Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk," the Ukrainian air force said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app, as cited by Ukrinform.
The statement added that "57 enemy UAVs were confirmed downed in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions," according to Ukrinform.
Meanwhile, Russia said its defence units destroyed 14 Ukrainian air drones overnight, including 10 drones over the Crimean Peninsula and four unmanned boats in the Black Sea heading toward Crimea, the Reuters news agency reported.
Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.
Wednesday is day 973 of Russia's war on Ukraine.
