The new facility, the first of four planned Rheinmetall arms plants in Ukraine, marks a significant step in German-Ukrainian defense collaboration.
Armin Papperger, Rheinmetall's CEO, shared with Ukrainian broadcaster TSN that the factory currently focuses on servicing combat vehicles and tanks, providing crucial technical support for Ukraine’s military forces.
Alongside vehicle maintenance, Rheinmetall's expansion plan includes three additional plants: one dedicated to gunpowder production—essential for ammunition manufacturing—a second to produce NATO-standard munitions, and a third to build air defense systems.
Russian response
The facility’s launch has triggered an immediate response from Russian officials. Medvedev took to social media to threaten the facility's destruction, accompanying his message with footage of an explosion, suggesting that Russian forces could target the plant.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, has said that the new plant is set to become a ‘legitimate target for the Russian forces,’ NEXTA has reported.
