The Trump administration is preparing to revoke temporary legal status for 240,000 Ukrainians who fled Russia’s invasion, potentially putting them on a fast track to deportation, sources told Reuters.

The move, expected as early as April, is part of a broader effort to strip humanitarian parole protections granted under President Joe Biden’s administration.

In total, over 1.8 million migrants—including 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans—face potential deportation under Trump's immigration overhaul.

Legal uncertainty for Ukrainians and other migrants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has yet to officially confirm the revocation. However, an internal ICE email seen by Reuters indicates that migrants losing parole status could be placed in expedited removal proceedings.

Unlike those who crossed illegally, parole recipients can be deported without a time limit after losing their status.

Biden’s parole programs aimed to provide legal pathways for migrants and deter illegal crossings. The planned rollback has raised concerns that Trump could use immigration policies as leverage over U.S. allies, as thousands of migrants—including Ukrainians, Afghans, and Latin Americans—face potential deportation.
