Organizacja Współpracy Islamskiej, wyrażając solidarność z Afgańczykami, zaapelowała do wszystkich stron o "powstrzymanie się od przemocy i pilnego przywrócenia bezpieczeństwa i porządku obywatelskiego". Podkreśliła też potrzebę pomocy społeczności międzynarodowej Afganistanowi w społeczno-gospodarczym rozwoju, bez wpływania na sprawy wewnętrzne tego kraju.

Krótko po wycofaniu się wojsk Stanów Zjednoczonych z Afganistanu przywódcy ruchu talibów triumfalnie przejęli kontrolę nad znaczną częścią kraju, między innymi jego stolicą - Kabulem. Jednocześnie cały czas trwa międzynarodowa ewakuacja dyplomatów i cywilów.

Ponadto jak ogłosił w niedzielę brytyjski premier Boris Johnson "szczyt online przywódców państw grupy G7 poświęcony sytuacji w Afganistanie odbędzie się we wtorek". Wielka Brytania sprawuje w tym roku przewodnictwo w G7. Johnson wezwał również społeczność międzynarodową do znalezienia sposobów na zapobieżenie eskalacji konfliktu w Afganistanie.
