At the end of April 2005, Jerusalem Post published in its Opinion column an article by Tal Harris, a PhD candidate in the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, concerning Turkey’s genocide against Armenians. — What is the better alternative: a quick death in a Polish gas chamber or a slow one in the hot Syrian desert? — asks the author, who writes that he himself is the grandson of two Holocaust survivors.
The Polish embassy in Tel Aviv demanded that the newspaper correct the deceptive information and publish an apology. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a note emphasising that although the text published by Jerusalem Post does not refer directly either to the Poles or Poland, it includes the words "Polish gas chambers", which distort the historical truth. The response of Polish diplomatic services was effective. The newspaper replaced the word "Polish" with "Nazi".
