Russian state media reports that the accused have confessed to their involvement in the attack. Simultaneously, a surge of videos and photographs has emerged online, allegedly showcasing the torture of the detainees by Russian security services, state broadcaster Polish Radio reported on Monday.
The attack, which unfolded last Friday, has since seen the arrest of 11 suspects by the FSB, including the four men now facing charges as the purported masterminds behind the violence. Graphic content circulating on Russian websites over the past two days purportedly reveals the use of electric shock torture and other forms of physical abuse against the accused, including one instance where a detainee's ear was partially cut off and stuffed in his mouth.
These revelations have ignited a firestorm of criticism from human rights groups, condemning the actions of Russian authorities. The incident has also spurred vindictive rhetoric from pro-Kremlin figures, vowing retribution against those responsible for the attack and their relatives.
Amidst these developments, pro-Kremlin sources have pointed fingers at Ukraine, alleging its involvement in the attack. However, Kiev has vehemently denied such accusations, echoing sentiments from the Russian opposition and recalling previous instances where Russian security forces have been accused of staging attacks to further political agendas.
