"With sadness, we received the news of the death of Polish-Israeli citizen Elad Katzir, whose body was found during a special operation in Gaza. To the family and friends of the deceased, we express our deepest condolences. May he rest in peace," the ministry's statement reads.

Elad Katzir, a resident of the Israeli kibbutz Nir Oz, was abducted during a Hamas attack on October 7 and subsequently murdered by members of the Islamic Jihad.

Israel's ambassador to Poland, Yacov Livne, informed that the body of 47-year-old Katzir was recovered in an overnight operation in Khan Younis.

Ambassador Livne also highlighted the ongoing captivity of another Polish citizen, Alex Dancyg, from the same kibbutz, Nir Oz, who remains held by terrorists.

Elad Katzir was abducted from Nir Oz along with his mother Hanna, 77, who was released along with 104 other hostages during a six-day ceasefire at the end of November.

His father, Avraham, was murdered in the kibbutz, according to the Israeli military.
