In the resolution, which was passed by acclamation on Tuesday, the lower house of Poland’s parliament said it was standing in solidarity with members of the Polish minority detained and repressed in Belarus, including Andżelika Borys and Andrzej Poczobut.

The resolution demands that those detained be released as soon as possible and that all repression against Polish minority leaders in Belarus be stopped, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Polish MPs also said they were opposed to "any interference in the operation of Polish minority organizations," especially the Association of Poles in Belarus and the Forum of Polish Local Initiatives in the city of Brest and in its surrounding areas near the Polish border.

The resolution added that "the actions of the Belarusian authorities" were "in flagrant contradiction to the international obligations of Belarus in the protection of national minorities" and ran counter to "bilateral Polish-Belarusian obligations in the protection of the Polish minority."

At the same time, Polish lawmakers called on the international community “to respond in solidarity and firmly to the illegal actions of the Belarusian authorities” with regard to the Polish minority in that country, which borders Poland to the east, the IAR news agency reported.
