Polish retail sales 4.4% up y/y in July: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went up by 4.4 percent in July at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s statistics office reported on Thursday.

Sales of motor vehicles shot up by 30.1 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose by 11.2 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics went down by 3.4 percent, and those of clothing and shoes dropped 1.1 percent, according to Statistics Poland.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 5 percent higher than in July 2023, Statistics Poland said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in July were 1.9 percent higher than in June, the statistics office also reported.
