While noting that “trends in customs and tax policy have changed,” Tusk told reporters before leaving for Ankara: “Maybe we’ll impose these taxes, maybe we won’t.”
Tusk confirmed that Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski is preparing a “potential proposal” for a digital tax on tech giants’ revenues or profits.
The suggestion drew criticism from Tom Rose, nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump to serve as Washington’s ambassador to Poland, who warned that such a move could harm bilateral relations and prompt retaliation. Gawkowski said he would not back down.
