Citing data from earlier this month, state news agency PAP reported on Tuesday that drought had hit more than 134,000 farms. Total losses are still being assessed.

The Government Information Centre said that drought has affected crops including spring cereals, winter cereals, strawberries, legumes, corn, ground vegetables, tobacco, sugar beet, potatoes and hops.

Poland has sweltered under heatwaves this year, though temperatures in other European countries have been even higher, with records set in the Netherlands and Germany.
