A total of six shipments of LNG arrived in Poland’s Świnoujście terminal in May, state news agency PAP reported.
The latest shipment of 73,000 metric tons arrived in the northwestern Polish port from the United States on Tuesday, state gas company PGNiG announced.
450,000 metric tons of LNG in May
“We have never obtained so many LNG shipments in a single month before - overall, we have received 450,000 tons of LNG in May,” PGNiG said in a statement.
The company added that the amount of LNG secured in May was enough to supply all of its household customers for two-and-a-half months "in the spring-summer period."
20 LNG shipments so far in 2022
“We have received 20 LNG shipments in Świnoujście so far this year, a one-third increase on the corresponding period of last year,” PGNiG announced.
Earlier this month, the Polish gas company also received one LNG delivery in the Lithuanian terminal of Klaipėda, officials said.
The LNG was then regasified and sent to Poland via a new Polish-Lithuanian interconnector, reporters were told.
Poland buys more LNG to boost energy security
PGNiG said it was stepping up purchases of LNG “due to the tensions caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and reductions in gas deliveries from the East.”
Wednesday is day 98 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
