Poland plans campaign to promote EU funds

The Polish government plans to hold a weekend of events to showcase the many ways in which European Union funds are used to finance local initiatives in the country, officials have said.

The Open Days of European Funds campaign will be held nationwide from May 12 to 14, Polish state news agency PAP reported. 

Audiences will be able to take part in concerts, picnics and competitions designed to highlight various local projects that have been co-financed by the EU, and learn about how to apply for such funding, according to officials.  

The campaign is part of the wider #EUinmyregion initiative spearheaded by the EU’s executive Commission, reporters were told.

The main events will be held on the grounds of Warsaw’s Royal Castle, according to officials. 

On May 14, citizens will be able to take part in a mobile-based game called Down the Alley of Stars. On the Trail of European Funds, showcasing 20 various Warsaw projects that have been co-funded by the EU, the PAP news agency reported.  

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the impact of EU-financed initiatives on the everyday life of the Polish people, as well as win attractive prizes, according to organisers.

Meanwhile, the regional labour office in the northern city of Gdańsk will host workshops, consultations and meetings with job advisors, to help residents choose where to study, successfully return to work after a break, change careers or find ways to develop their skills, officials said. 

In the southeastern city of Rzeszów, the public will be invited to go on free rides on the city’s EU-funded electric buses whose routes take in local landmarks such as the Lubomirski Castle, the Stal Rzeszów Municipal Stadium and the dam on the Wisłok river, according to an announcement. 

Events focusing on EU funds will be held in all of Poland's 16 provinces, reporters were told.
