The event will be held between January 10 and 15, according to the Polish Ice Hockey Federation (PZHL).
Poland’s U18 women’s team, coached by Magdalena Jabłońska, will vie for promotion to the second tier of international competition with Denmark, Spain, South Korea and Chinese Taipei, organizers said.
The Poles will be looking to build on their good performance last year when they finished second at the championship in Austria in September and also came second in the Four Nations’ Cup in November, according to a report by the onet.pl website.
The venue for the 2023 ice hockey U18 women’s world championship Division I, Group B, is the Jantor ice rink in Katowice, which also hosted the women’s tournament of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships Division I Group B in April last year.
The Polish team at the time gave the home crowd much to cheer about, claiming silver after winning four matches and losing only to China, according to onet.pl.
Poland begin their 2023 ice hockey U18 women’s world championship Division I, Group B campaign with a game against South Korea on Tuesday.
Mirosław Minkina, head of the Polish Ice Hockey Federation, told reporters on Monday that the Katowice tournament would see matches featuring many talented young female hockey players.
"Such tournaments have a huge impact on the development of young players," he said. "The future belongs to them."
