The 34-year-old Szczęsny met with club officials in Spain on Monday, underwent medical tests, and finalized the last details of the agreement.

The 12-month contract is expected to be signed tomorrow, ahead of FC Barcelona's Champions League match against Young Boys Bern on Wednesday evening. Media speculate whether Szczęsny will collaborate with the club's coaches today to be available for the upcoming match.

Szczęsny set to join FC Barcelona

Canal+Sport journalist Piotr Laboga mentioned on Program 1 of Polish Radio that, despite being a top-tier goalkeeper, Szczęsny will have to compete for a place in the lineup.

"There is a belief at Barcelona that Iñaki Peña deserves this opportunity, and he would have to make significant mistakes for Wojciech Szczęsny to step in immediately. Of course, there is a conviction that if the club wants to win trophies, they need a world-class goalkeeper," Laboga explained.

He also noted that Szczęsny's move to Barcelona is a unique situation.

"A few years ago, no one could have imagined that we would have two Poles at a club like Barcelona. It was unimaginable, even knowing that we have the excellent Robert Lewandowski at Bayern and the outstanding Wojciech Szczęsny at Roma and then Juventus. We should truly celebrate this because who knows when something like this will happen again," Laboga said.

As of now, there is no confirmation regarding whether Wojciech Szczęsny will be officially presented to the media as the club's new member.

Competition for goalkeeper position

Barcelona reached out to Szczęsny at the end of September following a serious injury to their starting goalkeeper, Germany's Marc-André ter Stegen, who will be out for several months.

Although Szczęsny announced his retirement from professional football in August after parting ways with Juventus, he decided to make a comeback. However, he will not rejoin the Polish national team.
