The highlight was the symbolic kick-off by 101-year-old veteran Captain Eugeniusz Niedzielski, who took part in Breda’s liberation 80 years ago.

Marking the upcoming anniversary on October 29, NAC Breda, newly returned to the Eredivisie, incorporated historical elements into their match against RKS Waalwijk. Fans unveiled a massive Polish flag with the word "PAMIĘTAMY" (We Remember), featuring images of Polish soldiers. The club shared, "Every letter is filled with images of liberation and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, for which we will always be grateful."

At 8 p.m., the game began with Niedzielski’s ceremonial kick-off, while Polish players Daniel Bielica and Kacper Kostorz played for Breda. The team wore commemorative kits with images of Polish soldiers from a 1945 match against a local Dutch team, honoring the wartime connection.

Fans delivered a powerful tribute 19 minutes and 44 seconds into the game, clapping for one minute to honor the Polish liberators. "Maczek and his men fought for every street without yielding. Thanks to them, we celebrate our city and freedom," the club shared. Breda remains a poignant reminder of Poland’s contribution to Dutch freedom, with many Polish soldiers from Maczek’s division buried nearby.

Breda’s liberation in 1944 was part of a strategic Allied advance. The city, an essential communication hub, was heavily fortified by the Germans but was a critical target for Polish forces aiming to secure the Maas River.
