UPDATE: Poland storms into United Cup semis after 3-0 win over Britain

Poland advanced to the semifinals of the United Cup mixed-teams tennis tournament in Australia after beating Britain 3-0 in the last eight on Thursday.

The mixed doubles duo of Maja Chwalińska and Jan Zieliński sealed the perfect victory for Team Poland, defeating the British pairing of Olivia Nicholls and Charles Broom 6-2, 7-6 in the final encounter of the match, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Earlier, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz outplayed Britain's Billy Harris 7-6, 7-5 in the men's singles, and world No. 2 Iga Świątek defeated Britain's Katie Boulter 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the women's singles.

Poland will face Kazakhstan for a place in the final of the mixed-teams competition Down Under.

Poland beat Norway 2-1 in its first match at the United Cup tournament on Monday, and followed up with a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic on New Year's Day.

The United Cup serves as a warm-up event for the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament, which is set to begin in Melbourne on January 12.
