Tennis: Poland’s Linette through to 3rd round of China Open

Poland’s Magda Linette has made it through to the third round of the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing.

The 31-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 25 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), on Monday beat American Jennifer Brady, who retired in the first set due to an injury, trailing 1-3 in their second-round clash.

Up next for Linette at the tournament in the Chinese capital is either countrywoman Iga Świątek, a former world number one, or France's Varvara Gracheva.

The 2023 China Open runs until Sunday.

Poland's Świątek, who is now ranked second in the world, saw off Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the women's singles in Beijing on Monday.
