Tennis: Iga Świątek beats Magda Linette to make China Open quarterfinals

Poland’s world No. 2 Iga Świątek has booked her place in the quarterfinals of the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing, with a straight-set win over countrywoman Magda Linette.

Świątek beat Linette 6-1, 6-1 in the third round of the women's singles in the Chinese capital on Wednesday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Up next for the 22-year-old Pole at the hard-court tournament in Beijing is either France's Caroline Garcia or Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina.

The 2023 China Open runs until Sunday.

Świątek last month lost her world No. 1 spot to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka after spending 75 weeks on top of the world rankings.
