Born in 1993, Łysiak is a graduate of cultural studies at the University of Warsaw and a student of directing at the Warsaw Film School.
The Dress tells a story of Julia, a woman of short stature who works at a roadside motel and struggles with rejection, loneliness and stigmatization. Her life changes when she meets a handsome truck driver.
The Dress won the top award at last year’s Atlanta Film Festival, with the jury’s citation describing the film as a "gripping tale of transformative yearning, feminine friendship, and startling brutality … evocatively shot, sensitively scripted, and anchored by a heartbreaking performance by Anna Dzieduszycka."
The 2022 Academy Awards will be announced on March 27.
