The film will be screened out of competition at the Berlinale Palast venue on February 16, according to festival organisers.
Directed by Rebecca Miller, She Came To Me stars Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, Brian d’Arcy James and Anne Hathaway, as well as Poland’s Joanna Kulig, who shot to fame for her role in Paweł Pawlikowski’s Oscar-nominated Cold War (2018).
Described as an exploration of “love in all its forms,” the film is set in New York City, centering on composer Steven Lauddem (Dinklage), who is “creatively blocked and unable to finish the score for his big comeback opera,” according to the deadline.com website.
At the instigation of his wife Patricia (Hathaway), formerly his therapist, Lauddem “sets out in search of inspiration.” What he discovers “is much more than he bargained for or imagined,” according to the synopsis, deadline.com reported.
Berlinale directors Mariëtte Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian said, as quoted by deadline.com: "We are very pleased to open this festival edition with an irresistible comedy that builds upon the everyday conflicts of western society."
The 2023 edition of Berlinale is designed to restore the festival to its former splendour following the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.
This year’s jury is chaired by Twilight star Kirsten Stewart. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg, whose latest feature, The Fabelmans, will screen in Berlin, is set to collect a lifetime achievement award, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
