One of the most important film events in Central and Eastern Europe - the 32nd International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography EnergaCAMERIMAGE - will kick off in Poland's north-central city of Toruń on Saturday, with an opening gala starting at 5:00 p.m. Polish time.

In its course, filmmakers will compete for the Golden Frog, which is among the most important awards in the world of cinematographers - emphasised the EnergaCAMERIMAGE festival spokesman, Roman Tondel, speaking for Polish Radio.

The event gathers the best cinematographers in the world. It is them who the participants' attention is to be focused on - although of course the festival also attracts other representatives of the film industry and cinema lovers - continued the event spokesman.

This year, the jury of the main competition will be headed by the two-time Oscar winner, the world-famous actress Cate Blanchett. The main competition includes 12 films, including the historical war drama "Blitz" by Steve McQueen, which will be the festival's opening screening. Many of the competition entries will be presented in Poland for the first time.

EnergaCAMERIMAGE also includes competitions for documentaries, debuts, Polish films, student shorts, television series and the already iconic music video competition. The Toruń Cultural and Congress Center Jordanki will be filled to the brim with people for whom cinema plays a special role - added Roman Tondel.

In addition to Cate Blanchett, the festival will feature Hiroyuki Sanada, who will receive the best tv series performance award, as well as Gianfranco Rosi, honoured with the award for "outstanding achievements in documentary film", and Ed Lachman, who will receive the lifetime achievement award.

Many other outstanding world film industry people will attend. Some esteemed guests, however, like Steve McQueen, have decided to cancel their participation due to sexist comments recently made by the event’s director, Marek Żydowicz, regarding the role of women in the film industry.

The accompanying event of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE festival will be the “Manifesto” exhibition by Julian Rosefeld. This multimedia film installation will be devoted to the most important artistic manifestos of the 20th century - and Cate Blanchett plays several different characters in it. The exhibition will open on November 17 at Toruń's Center for Contemporary Art (CSW).

The EnergaCAMERIMAGE festival will last until November 23, and Polish Radio is its media patron. More information on the program and festival events can be found at camerimage.pl
