In a video posted on YouTube by the Sundance Festival - the largest independent film event in the United States - to launch later this month, Eisenberg recounts how his discovering Poland led to the making of “A Real Pain”. The movie is now vying for prizes in the Festival’s Dramatic Competition.
“My movie follows two cousins played by myself and the brilliant Kieran Culkin as we go on a heritage tour through Poland to see where our family is from”, Eisenberg says.
“A lot of the movie is based on my family’s personal history, we even filmed a scene at the little apartment my family fled from in 1938,” he adds.
