The Netflix and Signature Studios production is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. "Górnik Zabrze is the first Polish club in history to be featured in a production distributed worldwide," it was announced via social media.
In June 2025, Podolski will turn 40, and, as unofficially reported, he plans to retire from his sports career. This intention is also suggested by the title of the documentary in which he is the main subject ("The Last Season").
Netflix cameras, which have been following him in his sporting endeavors for some time, are set to complete filming within the next six months, so it seems likely that the unconfirmed news about the end of his football career will be confirmed.
Podolski has played over 200 matches in the Bundesliga, frequently competed in the Champions League, and represented top European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Inter Milan. He is also a World Cup champion with the German national team. His impressive goal tally for the Polish national team, 49 goals in 130 matches, highlights the impact he had on their rivals. He has been playing for the Upper Silesian club Górnik Zabrze for the past three years.
