The latest figures were presented by the Polish Border Guard’s spokeswoman Anna Michalska on Thursday, state news agency PAP reported.

For the past two years, Russians have been allowed to enter Poland "only in exceptional circumstances," officials told reporters.

New curbs on entry of Russians into Poland

Earlier this month, the government in Warsaw introduced new restrictions "in the interests of national security amid the Kremlin’s continuing invasion of Ukraine."

The decree, which took effect on September 19, banned Russian citizens from entering Poland "for tourism, cultural, sporting or business purposes,” from outside the European Union, according to a report at the time.

Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński, who signed the new regulations into effect, said in a tweet: "Today I have signed a decree further restricting entry to Poland for Russian citizens. It follows an agreement between Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia."

He added: "Only wide-ranging, hard-hitting sanctions can strike firmly at [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's regime."

Over 300 Russians denied entry to Poland since September 19

Since September 19, a total of 3,907 Russian citizens have entered Poland, the Polish Border Guard’s Michalska told the PAP news agency on Thursday.

“Most of them have residence permits for Poland or elsewhere in the European Union,” the spokeswoman said, adding that some 60-70 Russians cross into Poland every day on work visas.

Meanwhile, 4,381 Russian citizens have left Poland since September 19.

As a result of the new restrictions, “More than 300 Russian citizens have been turned away at the Polish border since September 19,” the Polish Border Guard said in a tweet on Thursday.

As of September 26, the new travel curbs also apply at all airports and seaports, the PAP news agency reported.

Thursday was day 218 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
