Brussels announced the donation via social media on Friday.
The Commission wrote on the X platform that it was "sending an additional 500 power generators to Ukraine, bringing the total to over 5,500."
The assistance is designed to "ensure a sufficient energy supply and to keep vital services running," amid Russia's "continued brutal attacks" on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, according to officials.
The 500 generators are worth EUR 16.5 million and are drawn from the EU's emergency reserves in Poland, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.
They range from small-scale generators (12.5 kVA) to large ones (1,000 kVA) capable of supplying entire hospitals in the event of a power outage, according to administrators in Brussels.
Friday is day 667 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
